Beauty Section editorial/interview with Dr. Kate Goldie

You Are Beautiful
'Women in Scotland have enthusiastically embraced all that the recent advances in facial and skin rejuvenation have to offer.'

Non-surgical options like BOTOX® injections, dermatological fillers and chemical facial peels are no longer to be regarded as the preserve of the rich and famous.
Instead they now form part of the standard beauty routine for ordinary wives, mothers, and businesswomen from all walks of life.
At the forefront of this revolution is Glasgow doctor, Kate Goldie. A former hospital doctor and police surgeon, Dr. Goldie’s company, You Are Beautiful Ltd., has quietly been bringing top level training in the intricate art of facial rejuvenation to salons and clinics north of the border for the past two years.
You Are Beautiful is a company that trains doctors, dentists and particularly nurses in the ever-changing world of non-surgical rejuvenation, keeping them up to date with advances in the industry and providing a support network for practitioners.
Speaking to Scottish Women magazine, Dr. Goldie said: By law, injectables need to be administered by a medical professional like a doctor, dentist or nurse.
‘The big problem is that people have no idea if the person administering their BOTOX®, or a filler like Restylane®, is medically qualified or even particularly well trained.
‘Very often, a practitioner will have spent just one day in London learning about it, then they are on their own.’
‘The technology is changing all the time and it is very important that practitioners keep up-to-date with developments. However, if clients know they have a You Are Beautiful nurse, doctor or dentist, they can relax safe in the knowledge that he or she is an experienced medical professional who has been taught the latest techniques and is using a top of the range natural product.’
BOTOX® is widely used to smooth out frown lines and crow’s feet, and needs to be topped up every four months or so for the first year, and then less often in the following years. Although the results are not permanent, there can be unsightly side-effects if the treatment is not administered correctly.

Restylane® dermal fillers are particularly effective at smoothing out deep nose to lip lines and for plumping out fine lines and wrinkles or to recontour lips.
Dr Goldie, who is fresh-faced and looks at least 10 years younger than her 37 years, uses all the treatments herself.
She said: ‘The people who have these treatments want to look fresher or more rested, and quite sensibly want the treatments to look as natural as possible. The treatments are a great boost to self-esteem and confidence, and the products used are entirely safe and natural. And of course, they really work.’
She added: ‘Nurses are particularly suited to this kind of work. They are used to carrying out precision injections, more than doctors in fact, and are used to getting on with patients. They have a whole range of caring and communication skills they can bring to the job.’
Nurses can train to become a You Are Beautiful practitioner in addition to their full-time jobs, and can use it to earn extra income. Whether they want to use their new skills in a small way or a big way is entirely up to them.
The You Are Beautiful company offers nurses all the benefits of working for a large company, and is a social support network too.
Meanwhile salons clinics using the services of a You Are Beautiful nurse know that their clients are in the best possible hands and that they’ll be more than happy with the results.
Dr Goldie said: ‘It’s my aim to provide a service that helps to make sure that anyone administering facial injectables is a fully trained medical professional, and to provide the necessary training to ensure professional standards for medical cosmetics around the country.’
